Dominic has connected with Izzy, his therapy dog, more than we even realized. If you have been following Izzy’s story, you know that she has had two surgeries on her leg. During her recovery, she was at her trainer’s place during the eight to ten weeks of recovering. During that time, Dominic had night terrors every night. He would be screaming a deadly scream and he didn’t know what was going on. It was scary and it made it difficult for us to go back to sleep. He was able to and lets be honest, Ed did also but my heart was pumping. I was having less sleep because I was dreading hearing my son cry out in the night.
Izzy has been home since the end of October and it is amazing that he has only had two night terrors since. The one time was when we snuck her out of his room to take her out for the evening to go potty. With in that short time, he woke up screaming. It amazes us how this connection has given him peace and balance. It has truly been a gift for our entire household but most importantly it allows us to know that Dom feels more comfortable.
We couldn’t be more thankful for what our sweet Izzy does for Dominic and how she has been the reason for our son to sleep soundly throughout the night.
