When Vince was around six years old, we were having a conversation with him about what he wanted to be when he grew up. He wasn’t able to tell us what occupation he wanted to be however he quickly said he wanted to be a daddy. We told him we thought that was wonderful and asked him what type of wife he wanted to have when he was married.
We thought he would tell us that he wanted a wife that was smart, kind, pretty, nice, caring, or any of these things however what he did say has left an impression, we will never forget. He said to us, “I will marry a girl that loves Dominic. She will have to be okay with him living with us if he needs to or she isn’t the right girl for me.” Ed and I started to stare at him and tears started pooling in our eyes. How could this young boy already grasp such a larger concept and already be committed to being by his brother’s side forever?
He then went on to explain that he wanted a job that he would make a lot of money so Dominic would always be taken care of without problems. Ed and I explained to him that he didn’t have to worry about things like that especially at his young age. We also told him how proud we are of the person he is becoming and the connection he has with his brother. I will always cherish this memory because this was a moment that God was telling me that their bond is like nothing I could ever imagine. It is a bond that will never be broken and with time, it will only continue to grow and strengthen.
