Dominic is so blessed to have his great grandfather in his life. It was difficult for him in the beginning to understand or comprehend what was truly going on with Dominic when he was having so many medical issues at a young age. His great grandfather turns 100 in May and he is very with it. He knows exactly what is going on and is a true blessing to our family.
I reflect on the support and love he gives to all of us and how he has challenged himself to get to know and understand Dominic and autism. He knows that Dominic has some unique rituals and has to watch his cartoons when he comes to Sunday dinner. He knows he may have to negotiate with him if he wants to do something that is not in Dominic’s norm. The major point is he tries to adapt and find out what really makes Dominic happy.
We are so thankful for his unconditional love and support. We love how he has challenged himself to learn to connect when it would be easier to ignore. We appreciate how he wants to be a part of our lives and has stuck by us through the hardest times and never judged. We are blessed to have him change his schedule to meet ours for many years to be at church during our schedule to help us through getting Dominic used to going every Sunday. We are grateful that he is there with a hug and a smile when we need it the most. We are hopeful that if a man that is almost 100 years old can learn to accept autism and learn about it, others will be willing to do the same also.
We thank you Grandpa for being such a huge part of our lives and for always making us feel loved. We love how you are so supportive of us and of our family. We will always cherish all of our memories and we are so thankful you are part of our lives and the boys. Thank you, Grandpa for always giving us hope and for being a gift from God. We love you
